The Desperation
Our hope of ending is not near
But a hopeful wish long forgotten
This tepid stink - stale air and desperation
Living small beneath the weight of expectations
Our shining heroes great and tall
Had never taken such a fall
But perhaps only in their own eyes
Had they ever fallen
Their brave pictures are sung a thousand praises
Yet are but one second of a life
And how much courage is needed in a lifetime of remembrance
With long nights of shadows frozen
Peering solemn over stark horizons
Sunrise comes
And silhouettes - still restless
Keep watch
A battlefield's great furrows
Tracing trails of internal sorrows
As a and dance of desperation
Plays
Summer arrived
But the path began nowhere and ended nowhere
Day after day; for weeks upon end
Back and forth,
Twisted through the uncharted vastness
Across blue mountain lakes
Across unknown rivers
In the fall of the year
Penetrated a lake country
Sad and Silent
Wildfowl had been
But there was no sign of life
Months came and went
Sometimes went hungry
Sometimes feasted
Winter arrived
But the path began nowhere and ended nowhere
And to Buck it was boundless delight
This indefined wandering
Day after day; for weeks upon end.
